New Tirupur Area Development Corporation Limited (NTADCL), was established as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by Government of Tamilnadu (GoTN), Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) and Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) to provide Water Supply and Sewerage facility exclusively to Tirupur Municipality (now Corporation), Wayside Village areas in Erode and Tirupur District and Industries in the Service Area.

A Concession Agreement was signed between the Government of Tamilnadu, Tiruppur Municipality and NTADCL to implement a 185 Million Litres per Day (MLD) water supply (expandable to 250 MLD) project mainly to meet the water requirements of hosiery and related industries in and around Tirupur. This project was the first Public Private Partnership Water Supply and Sewerage Project implemented in the country. Cost of the project was Rs.1023 crore. The project was commissioned in July 2005.

Water Supply

The raw water is abstracted from the River Cauvery in Bhavani. Head Works (River Water Intake) is established at Anainasuvampalayam Village and Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is constructed at Suriyampalayam Village which is 1.5 Kms. away from the Head Works. After treatment process, clear water is being pumped through Transmission Main (MS 1400 mm dia pipe with Cement Mortar lining inside and Coal Tar Wrapping outside) to Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) at Tirupur which is about 53.5 Kms. from WTP. In between Booster Pumping Station is established at Thiruvachi considering topography of terrain. From the Transmission Main (laid along NH47 road) Tapping Points water is supplied to Wayside Villages and Industries on the enroute.

Under Tirupur Water Supply and Sewerage Project, Water Distribution Station (WDS) 36 Nos. have been established in and around Tirupur to cater water supply to Domestic Beneficiaries as well as Industrial Consumers. Potable water is being supplied to Tirupur City Municipal Corporation, Village Panchayats in Erode & Tirupur Districts and 600 + Industrial Units in and around Tirupur. The details of water supply provided to domestic & industrial usage is given below:

Features:

The Project abstraction is located Koodudurai- near confluence point of River Cauery and Bhavani and the River water is pumped using 520KW capacity pumps-3Nos (2 Working +1 Standby) to water treatment plant located 1.5 kms away from the raw water station.

Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is located at Bhavani –Near Vasavi college, Erode. This state of art plant is designed by international standard design by experts, executed by M/s L&T infrastructure and M/s Hindustan Construction Company in association with M/s VA Tech WABAG- process expert to deliver the potable water to meet CPHEEO norms,

Raw water is treated at this facility through three stage conventional treatment process:
  • Flocculation
  • Clarification
  • Filtration

Alum sulphate is used for coagulation of suspended solids to settle down in the Clari-flocculator,to remove the settled sludge through sludge withdrawal pumps. Chlorination is used for disinfection of water: Pre-chlorination dosing is done in inlet distribution chambers and & post chlorination added in the clear water sump to maintain the FRC (Free Residual Chlorine).

The treated potable water is stored in the clear water storage tank and pumped by using 1570KW pumps -3Nos (2Working +1 Standby) to Tirupur Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR).
